That was due to a forced misinterpretation of the brilliant poet Oswald de Andrade’s Cannibal Manifesto, which uses cannibalism as a metaphor to describe Brazil’s contention against the European colonisation that went on during the first few decades after its discovery.
But certain people thought it would be funny to attribute the literal meaning of cannibalism to modern-day brazilians. i.e, me.
